This exclusive solid gold pendant is a beautiful stylised interpretation of New Zealand’s national symbol - the rare flightless Kiwi bird.

The Golden Kiwi's Story

When designing The Golden Kiwi we wanted to create a piece that connected to a love for our beautiful country and that provided a timeless piece of jewellery that could be worn anytime, anywhere. A perfect marrying of our Nordic influenced style and our roots in Kiwi culture. Our hope is that The Golden Kiwi reflects Jens’ own interest in creating jewellery that has a dialogue with the influences of New Zealand’s natural environment. This is what led us to design a form that is distinctively organic and free from sharp edges or abrupt divisions.  The pendant is developed from the iconic shape of a kiwi, a bird that is intrinsic to our upbringing in New Zealand. By slightly abstracting the form of the pendant from an exact depiction of a kiwi, we created a timeless piece of jewellery imbued with the essence of the national icon and its natural home. We hope that the final design conveys this intention, and that it is worn with pride by everyone who loves our country, New Zealand.  

   The Jens Hansen Golden Kiwi Pendant was gifted to The Duchess of Cornwall as   an official gift from the City of Nelson on 7th November 2015.

The Golden Kiwi is a unique Jens Hansen creation and is the subject of New Zealand Design Application No. 420559.
